    Hi all,

New poster to this part of Boards. I have just moved to Dublin from Galway for work and I'm looking to find a quality coach to work with. I'm playing off 5 and haven't played that much in the last few years but I'm looking to ramp it up again and hopefully make some progress.

My coach at home has recommended Michael Allen at Leopardstown. John Kelly and Brendan McDaid look like good options as well but I'm open to all suggestions.

While I'm here, ye might list out some courses in the vicinity for me to try out as well.

    Thanks in advance!! :D:D

Not sure who's in Spawell these days.

I go to Dave Kearney in the Grange. Top guy and really good IMO. He does a lot of work with the GUI/ILGU too as far as I know.

In reality most pros will tell you much the same thing, its the communication that's key. Try a few and find one that you "get".

Re courses, where abouts in Dublin are you based?

I've never had a lesson with Brendan McDaid but I've been in the next bay on many a time and he seems to keep it very simple (which I would like) and is popular with low guys.

I would suggest you try a few and see how you work with them. Simon Byrne in Hermitage works with many pros and low h/c golfers. Kevin Foy in Stepaside GC is worth a look. He has lots of tech if you like that and works out of a golf bay in the range which lets you see ball flight and is handy on those bad days.

Do you mind me asking what sort of money he charges? His site seems to be down so I can't get any info on him. Thanks

Brendan McDaid is in Spawell these days. I'm new to Dublin so I've never worked with him but he has a strong reputation and I think I'm going to go to him...he uses trackman which I'm intrigued about.

My first lesson was 60 for the hour...each one since was 50....Not sure why the difference. Think he only works in full hours but it works much better than the 30 minute lessons you get at ranges. Guys at ranges never did anything for me.

St Margaret's is worth a round if you're in the area. It's in great shape since the new people took over and is well worth the €25.

That's very reasonable for an hour lesson. The last couple of lessons I got were from Shane O'Grady in BlackBush, very good instructor coaching some high level amateurs but very expensive at €90 per hour and there's no reduction for members either. Would have got more lessons from him if he was more reasonably priced.

How much does he charge? I'm all for getting a few lessons but I won't be giving anyone 90 bucks for an hour.

€75 for an hour. If you go to his website you can buy bundles of lessons for a bit cheaper

    John is a great guy.

And a great player and TPI coach - good setup.

John is willing to deconstruct you if you want,

    So not just straightforward change.

Brendan McDaid is a great coach who keeps it very simple. He is a really nice lad too. I would highly recommend him for all levels.
