LE Eithne she was the first Irish Navy ship to operate in the Mediterranean on an operational tasking to rescue migrants , they have been there before bringing supplies to Irish troops on peacekeeping missions in Lebanon , she was also the first Irish Navy ship to cross the Atlantic visiting South America and the US. History was made when she was relieved by LE Niamh when they exchanged salutes after meeting up off the Spanish Coast the first time two Irish Navy ships were together in the Med.
