Santa is thinking of bringing my 6 year old son a set of junior clubs for xmas. He loves golf but at the moment it's just crazy golf, using his uncles clubs out on the green or playing it on the WII.

Would love to get him involved in a club but don't know where to start. Have had a look at a few local websites and there's little if anything about juvenile players. Black bush says from 11+ and the local pitch and putt club says 8+.

Any suggestions were I could bring him?

At 6 he is probably to young for most clubs. They generally won't start taking them till they are about 10 and up.

Pitch & putt would be your best bet. Though just bringing him out for a few holes and letting him hit a few shots when you are playing wouldn't be a bad idea.

The other thing you could do, it simply bring him up to a putting green somewhere. The hardest part of golf and the most rewarding. I can imagine a 6year old would be having the time of his life to see putts drop!

I remember a thread on here not too long ago about snag golf and it looked very good for coaching kids the game but I know very little about it or where it's available but might be worth looking up

Checked out the SNAG website and it seems to be mostly selling products. No info about local clubs etc.

Would have thought there'd be kids training clubs - seem to do it for all other sports. Any I have seen are summer camps but there doesn't seem to be anything (that I can find online anyway) where you can bring them at the weekend for an hour or two to learn and play with other kids.

Will try the pitch and putt and see how it goes.

A pro called Philip Murphy based in Glasson does a lot of coaching throughout the midlands especially for kids using snag golf. There are plans to have a snag centre in Glasson where a new driving range is almost complete.

He runs summer and Easter golf camps and runs snag courses in schools. One of my boys (7) got hooked after a summer camp this year and is now doing a weekly class with Philip.

snag is a good introduction to the game and bringing my son to it meant he got to learn about golf without his dad pushing it on him.
