The Most Dangerous Game

    We getting there?

We seem to be getting closer and closer to it. Kids play violent video games, people watch airstrikes on liveleak, the new series on channel 4 seems to be everything but the killing part. What if human hunting became a sport? It doesn't seem too unlikely with the way the world is going and with more humans now than ever, life is cheap. Animal bloodsports used to do it for our savage ancestors but they're all mostly banned now. But we're still here.

What form would it take? A more extreme version of Survivor with people dumped on an island and left to hunt each other? The winner gets to live and wads of cash?

Or more akin to the Running Man with people voluntarily entering and the ones hunting them akin to celebrities like famous wrestlers and athletes? Again, the one who makes it through gets fame and fortune.

Or an alternative to wars, we just get two teams from opposing countries to merrily butcher each other on an island. Much cheaper than a war.

And would you watch it? Why? Why not?

Would you watch a human hunting bloodsport on tv? 48 votes

I'd prefer The Fairly Dangerous Game instead.

Feck watching it, I'd enter and earn me some glory.

Also, it's difficult to argue that life is any cheaper now than it ever was throughout history. Kill 'em all and let the devil sort them out I say.

Can't see it happening and no I wouldn't watch it.... unless Van Damme was in it, then I'd watch it 'cause he's awesome.

Supply and demand. There's more of us now, we're not so valuable.

Listen all! This is the truth of it. Fighting leads to killing, and killing gets to warring.
And that was damn near the death of us all. Look at us now!
Busted up, and everyone talking about hard rain! But we've learned, by the dust of them all...
Bartertown learned. Now, when men get to fighting, it happens here! And it finishes here!

Two men enter; one man leaves.

I'm not so sure it works that way. We're not snickers bars or toasters (most of us anyway).

Depends on the host, if they brought back Henry Kelly then maybe I might watch it for a bit.

Not like it hasn't been done before, The Romans called this entertainment.

I always thought it was a double play on words. Like game as in prey, so that we're the most dangerous game. And that the sport or game of hunting a human is also the most dangerous.

    I thought "Predators" nailed it.

I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And I am immortal.

Seriously though, there is a reason we banned hunting animals, we would go back to that before we started hunting humans. We are a long way away from getting there. Still it will always make for interesting novels/movies.

If it was like that ****ey "I'm a Celebrity" but they actually properly dumped them out in the jungle and left to fend for themselves against the wild and each other then yeah I'd watch it. :D

Sadly OP, this Running Man game is less likely to happen now than at any point ever in civilized human history.

The Last Action Hero, on the other hand... maybe, please?

War, terrible war. Widows, orphans, a motherless child. This was the uprising that rocked our land. Thirteen districts rebelled against the country that fed them, loved them, protected them. Brother turned on brother until nothing remained. And then came the peace, hard fought, sorely won. A people rose up from the ashes and a new era was born. But freedom has a cost. When the traitors were defeated, we swore as a nation we would never know this treason again. And so it was decreed that, each year, the various districts of Panem would offer up, in tribute, one young man and woman to fight to the death in a pageant of honor, courage and sacrifice. The lone victor, bathed in riches, would serve as a reminder of our generosity and our forgiveness. This is how we remember our past. This is how we safeguard our future.

Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favour.

    Hard Running Man Target. LIVE!

On a more serious note, I was watching a documentary on 'shock rock' recently where band and artists like Slipknot, Rammstein, Maryln Manson....where being interviewed. The last question to each individual was what can 'shock rock' do next to shock the audience as everything that has been done doesn't shock anymore.
The answer was an execution on stage by nearly all interviewed....and some noted that it probably wouldn't even shock some people.

Hate to be pedantic (OK that's a lie, I love it) but they weren't volunteers in The Running Man, they were convicts.

ISIS play this game, we watch the consequences everyday as people flee Syria and Iraq.

I was referring to the original novelette by Stephen King. Sorry, I should have put that in the original post.

That said, would you watch it if it were convicts or free individuals being hunteD?

Hell no I wouldn't. I think as cynical as people may become that's just never going to happen.

Humans are hunted every day for amusement. I'd say we're not as long as you think. Just curious would we ever try to market it as mass entertainment.

Doesn't work in this case. Increasing the supply of humans also increase aggregate demand in general. Otherwise by your logic people would be worth more to businesses/society in Ireland than in the US.
