    Hi All,

I would appreciate if someone could recommend a plumber who is familiar with Ariston boilers in Cork city and will both service it and actually show me how to operate the heating settings properly.

It was installed 5 years and the only setting I know is to have it on constant and then switch it off manually when the room is piping and repeat all over when the temp drops.

I made the mistake of trying to figure out the menu settings and reset the system and now the boiler will not work at all. The screen is reading "filling needed"

The boilers pressure Guage is digital and will show a reading in"BAR" so you need to top up the water in the heating system to 1.5 BAR from your filling loop.

The boiler has a inbuilt programmer to disengage this you need to press the clock symbol which switches the programmer off.

You need to make sure Auto is not showing on the boilers display if it is you lose control over the boiler temperture setting, if auto is showing press the auto button to clear it then you can adjust the temperture by turning the dial.

    Thanks for the quick response,

I cannot see the BAR reading as the display is showing an error. It is displaying a spanner service icon with the text that "filling needed"

See picture attached of the display as it is currently

108 is the boiler fault code indicating a lack of water pressure in your boiler you need to find the filling point and increase the pressure and as the pressure increases I would expect your pressure indicator to kick back in.

    Thanks again for the reply,

What I did was twist the two grey knobs underneath the boiler at the same time and I could hear the boiler filling. All the time watching the display to see if the Filling needed reading went away. When hearing it filling I heard some severe knocking noises and stopped immediately.

All your doing is filling the boiler with water.

If you find the boiler is trying to run turn off the boiler at the on/off button(where the green light is).

With the boiler off you should hear no noises other than you filling if, if you still hear a bang noise double check that your safety device isn't lifting and emptying the water your putting in to outside.

If you are still concerned I'll PM you the number for the Ariston service agent in Cork. (Sent PM)

If I turn it off and start filling the boiler by turning the two grey knobs how do I know when the filling is complete as the display is blacked out ?

You want to stop the command to fire, you do this by turning the boiler thermostat minimum or the programmer to off or the off switch to off.

If you find the display goes blank then fill in short burst.

I tried to do the fill once more and again got the same knocking noise when it was filling.

I think it this stage it is beyond my DIY reaches, please PM the Cork plumber that is up to speed with this boiler type
