Are you looking to buy straight from tyre garage or would you consider buying online with oponeo or few others I have used oponeo saving €40 a tyre then just have to pay for fit and balance but still save.

As well as driving around with the tyres in your car. Looking around will get a tyre place which can match the online prices.

He quoted me €98 yesterday including VAT and fitting etc. I was looking for two tyres and stupidly assumed €98 was the total cost, which I did think was a bargain. Got a bit of a surprise when I went to pay for it today. Anyway, lesson learned.

it all seems like such swings and roundabouts.

been shopping for 205/55/16's myself there lately, bit more expensive than i thought, but i'm probably just used to buying 14's.

i see oponeo do the Firestone TZ300 for €62 with free delivery, so if you pay less than €40 per corner fitting, you're winning. i'd expect to pay €15-20 a corner for fitting, so the guts of a €100 potentially to be saved in fairness.

I was looking for specific tyres for my car. I rang a few places and asked do they fit tyres if I bring them. The 2nd place i called was €10 more than the online shops, guess where I got my tyres from.

Got 4 hankook kinergys 205/55/16 fitted and balanced for 316 not too long go. They hold a B rating for the wet.

A lot of places now are charging between 10 and 15 Euro each to fit tyres bought from outside i.e. online

€98 for a Firestone given that they are the budget brand of Bridgestone is very pricey. I paid €90 fitted for GoodYear Efficient Grips in the same size and I was told they are a top of the range tyre.

I paid €90 for the GoodYears and was quoted the same or a little bit less for bridgestones.....

Autodepot Tyres have good prices on new tyres €40 for ones from China I think or you can get part worn 85% brand names €60 each.

    Service was good.

€40 for a tyre means one thing absolute rubbish cheap sh1t.

Do not put yours or other lives in danger with such china rubbish.

I have had many experiences with such rubbish in many different cars and the change in handling is phenomenal.

€98 fitted is steep enough for a Firestone, but just recently my friend was quoted €125 for these exact tyres in this size at a First Stop / Fast Fit outlet.

I find Firestone TZ300a to be very good and its what I've been using for the last few years, but I can't find them anywhere in 185/55/r14. Most places don't even seem to stock this size anymore, they have to order in. Best in stock so far was 2 WanLi's for €80!

    x2,

had TZ300's on my Glanza and found them excellent, particularly for the price. they are far superior to an Chinese rubber.

Could you get these in 185/55/r14? Firestone website doesn't list them anymore, says they are unavailable.

185/55/r14 is standard size? Or does it not make a difference?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Doubt it makes much difference, I just replaced what was already there so mine could have been wrong. The correct size should be on the sticker inside the drivers door?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭Pops_20

Its just the sidewall height I suppose, would probably make the car more comfortable on the road. It's no wonder I couldn't find them, they probably don't make them in that size.

Ah yeah I've seen that sticker but that size could be for stock steel wheels? There's two sizes anyway, 175 and 185 something...

I got the runflat versions of those firestones: http://www.oponeo.ie/details-tyre/firestone-fhsz90-205-55-r16-91-w-run-on-flat#98535698
A pair cost €190 fitted which was a discounted rate, I don't think your price is too bad.

The handling is definitely improved. When I bought the car there were cheap Chinese tyres on it and the gave alot of wheelspin, especially on hills and in the wet. Firestone definitely have better grip. Just a pity I paid over the odds.

€98 per tyre is a rip off. I recently looked for the same tyres and managed to find 205/55/16 TZ300 for £40.80 (€54.31 incl. free delivery) on savingontyres co uk. That's €5 cheaper than the likes of Oponeo.

There are plenty of tyre fitters who charge around €10 per corner, so on just two tyres you can easily save €70.

    they're part worn tyres though...

    A few questions.
Are they free delivery to ireland. ?
Where did you get your exchange rate . Its .74 now so you are most likely gonna get .71 when u buy .
Also there seems to be dearer versions of that tyre for over 46 pounds so unless they are the exact same spec its not a fair comparison.
I have pirellis on mine that are on openeo for 115 a piece plus fitting. My friend told me he can get pirellis fitted for 90 buying off a tyre place. Both p7s but not the same tyre.

Regarding fitting. My lads wire brush the rim and replace the valve holder and balance properly. Some lads wouldnt be bothered balancing the wheel for a tenor

You paid €98 for 2, or €98 each for part worn mid range tyres?

I think they are new and the OP was responding to the post regarding savingontyres.co.uk who appear to be selling part worn tyres

Got ya now. Going on their price for Michelins, they were probably new rather than part-worn for that price.
