It is an opinion of mine that the 4 provinces combined should ideally have 15 NIEs. No more than one in each position

Well we are pretty close to it at the moment. No loose heads and an extra tight head, a spare backrow, an extra centre, and no wings but some spare fullbacks but since they all cover and often play wing I will say its fine atm.

    Props
    Botha
    Herbst*

    Hookers
    McCartney*

    Locks
    Chisholm
    Van Der Merwe

    Backrow
    Williams
    Heenan*
    Fox-Matamua*
    Naoupu

    Scrumhalf
    Pienaar

    Outhalf
    Blydenhaal*

    Centres
    Saili
    Te'o*
    Bundee Aki*

    Back 3
    Ludik*
    Kirchener
    Nacewa
    Van den Heever*

No, Stander qualifies 1st November, after the World Cup final which is on 31st Oct.

He left SA on 30 October 2012 and arrived in Ireland on the same day. Irish residency began on that day

Mind you he would need to be added to the squad 48 hours before playing so added on 29 October and he wouldnt be IQ then. One for the lawyers to argue over maybe.

Has he even been in the Ireland training camps? I doubt he'd be going anywhere without at least some time spent in camp.

No, I read an interview before the extended squads for the RWC were being selected, it stated that he would not be eligible before the final, so unfortunately he didn't come into contention at all.
He might have arrived in the country that evening, but for whatever reason it will be 1st November, not 30th October, when he will be IQ.

Either way, 30th October/1st November, he will not be called up before the final, Conan or Ruddock would get called up with Sean O'Brien moving to 8 if needed.

He is, but doesn't qualify for a while yet. Many of the players on that list can qualify eventually if they stick around.

    I wasn't expecting
I don't expect him to be called up. Conan Ruddock and Diack would be called ahead of him just because they have more experience in camp. Its just interesting trivia.

Given the 48 hour cool down period (ie you have to call someone up then wait 48 hours before they can play) he would have to be called up on 29 October to make the squad for the final and as he wouldn't be eligible on that date he wouldn't be able to be called up.
I thought heenan was a project player.

I've added an asterix to denote players who will be come eligible for Ireland due to residency

AFAIK I don't think Heenan is officially a project player, but in reality that's what he is. He did come over very young though so will be IQ next July 2016 at the age of 24 (His birthday is St. Patrick's Day, a sign or what!).

Connacht's official project player is Bundee Aki.

Josh Strauss only qualified for Scotland on Monday but he trained with them and was named in their squad so I presume in theory Stander's selection would be possible.
