If you accumulate 12 penalty points within 3 years and receive a 6 month driving ban what practically happens?

    - after the 6 months do you get licence back or do you need to re-sit your test

    - do you lose your insurance no claims bonus for past 5 years

Or is it simply you cannot drive for 6 months and then full reinstatement after 6 months with no other consequences?

You do not have to resit the test.
It does not affect your NCB.

God knows what your next insurance renewal will cost.

You'd need to report the points to the insurance company which would most likely mean an increased cost at the very least; can't answer the other questions though but I'd assume NCB remains as it relates to your claims, not points (and it has a 2 year grace period to expire if not insured).

Well after you serverd 6 months ban all your points are erased, so you have 0 point. This won't affect insurerance premium then.

Only thing which might affect it, is the fact that you were banned for 6 months.

I'm pretty sure one of the questions for insurance asks if you ever lost your license or received any motoring related convictions etc.

How is the penalty points question on the insurance application worded? Is it current points, or whether you incurred points in the last x months?

Usually asks about points/convictions in the last 3-5 years

Do you have any penalty points.

If you answer yes they will ask how many, for what offence and when you got them.

    Thats it.
