I am starting a new job Monday. I have was in college as a mature student from 2009 to 2014. I never worked during this time. I got a jobbridge role for 9 months after leaving college.

For my new job, the company is looking for my P45. Do I still need to supply one as I have not worked in so long?

No as you won't have one.

P45s only apply to jobs in the same tax year.

You need to get onto Revenue and get setup as an employee.

You may need to fill out a form 12a and send it to them

I haven't worked since 2007. Start a new job today. I have no p45. They asked me to print off a p46 instead. Is this an option for you?

I will call my local tax office today and ask them what the story is.

    Cheers lads.

So, I called the tax office. The lady on the phone said that as long as I gave her the employer registered tax number then I would not need a P45. She said the employer should receive it within 48 hours and everything will be sorted. She wasn't very helpful explaining things.
