Hey guys. I have a friend looking for a car. The main requirement is that the rear 3 seats should be full size as it has to accommodate for 2 car seats and another passenger. Also diesel is 'almost' a requirement. Reliability > style. Thanks guys :)

Will also be looking to trade in, if that matters.

Some sort of mpv would probably fit the bill.
    Verso, scenic, touran, Picasso etc

I was thinking 7 seats isn't necessary so maybe get a non 7 seat then therefore a newer car for the similar price? I am even considering if brand new is an option.

If you have 3 kids in there then a 7 seater would be of use. If only to keep them apart :)

There was a time when there were loads of 5 seat big enough mpvs. Most manufacturers have. added the 2 rear seats now.

Regular golf/focus/Astra etc won't do what you want. Nor will any saloon I can think of.

It's going to be 2 kids on car seats and a parent has to stay with them due to the kids needing assistance. That's the reason for needing 3 full rear seats. I mean, sure the 7 seats are a bonus, but again, a little bit unnecessary. I really think they would prefer a higher year/spec/quality than the bonus 7 seats.

EDIT: They are currently in a prius and I'm pretty sure any little bit bigger of a car would be sufficient enough space :)

Your problem is that it is mostly MPVs that have 3 individual seats across the rear. Conventional hatchbacks and saloons do not have that.

Alright. I'll suggest to them lower year MPVs and see what they think. Thank you guys :)

You can always put one car seat in the front. much easier than changing cars :-P

People keep saying 3 full seats don't exist on saloons, but I'm not so sure if we talk big saloons. Something like the Toyota Avensis, also generally known for reliability, apparently a longtime favourite of taxi drivers because of the space and reliability.

I'm not sure the seats are "full enough" but I'd give this a try (as in fitting the two child seats and the adult into one on a test drive).

Another option might be the Skoda Superb, the 2015 model is wider than the Avensis but that's not 20k...

Another wide car from a reliable manufacturer - the Mazda 6.

Try putting 2 booster seats in the rear of an Avensis and an adult in between them.

Probably just about doable in one of these

    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/volvo/v70/used-2010-volvo-v70-1-6-e-drive-l-dublin-fpa-201014418187720220

With 2 big child seats in the outside seats, there's just enough room to sit comfortably for a reasonable sized adult (had a V70 previously, with 2 child seats and sat in the back OK). Fairly flat across the back which helps.
