    Hi all,
My boiler sounded as if there was air running through it so I checked the running pressure on the dial which was only about 0.3bar. Like a right egjit I closed off the external bypass valve in the hope of solving this but no joy. Turned out I just had to charge the system from the mains. The problem was that I never checked the bypass setting before adjusting. I set it at 0.5bar and it seems to be running fine but I'm wondering what is the function of this external plumped in bypass and what it should be set at efficiently. Obviously as it was fitted by the plumber there is no mention of it in the Baxi manual.
Also what it a good running temp setting. I have it at 65 and the rads heat up grand and fast (bungalow).
I'd be glad of any advice just in case I have the bypass turned up way to high and am driving the boiler too hard.

    Clueless in Cork.

65c would be a industry standard(never lower then 60c if stored hot water is being heated.)

The auto bypass promotes boiler longevity and should be fitted to all gas boiler installation where practical.

A auto bypass helps reduce boiler cycling, it also prevents any negative impact on the boilers pump from increased pipework resistance ie.. when the heating zones close and the boiler pump continues to run on to dissipate heat, the pump is pumping into a cul-de-sac shortening the life span of the pump.

You should normally only feel heat on the other side of the bypass as your zones close, TRVs shut, heat hot water only etc...

If you have any movement across the Bypass when everything is calling you may want to close it down but if everything is working and your happy I'd leave it alone.
