    Hi,

I am currently doing a MSc with the University of Edinburgh in Outdoor Education.

A part of one of my assignments is developing a programme specifically linked to the curriculum that can take place outside. I like the idea of using ESS as it involves a more active learning approach and combines history and geography in a social context.

However, I seem to be struggling with finding information on ESS. So far I have found these; https://www.education.ie/en/Schools-Colleges/Information/Curriculum-and-Syllabus/Junior-Cycle-/Syllabuses-Guidelines/jc_envsocialstudies_sy.pdf & http://www.ncca.ie/uploadedfiles/Factsheets/ESS_factsheet.pdf.

Do you know where I might find more information on this subject?

If you teach it, how do you teach it? Activity suggestions or ideas would be great.

So far, in a nutshell, some of my ideas include taking the pupils on a journey from their school in Dun Laoghaire and walk from the Coal harbour and along the metals to the quarry at Killiney Hill. This would present the opportunity to discuss the development of Dun Laoghaire using the granite from the quarry to effectively build it. Pupils will be encouraged to photograph places or objects of interest and research them further before presenting them on an exhibition board in the school.

    Any help is greatly appreciated,

    Terrance.
