shared living = more money for a deposit later but discomfort now.
basic apartment = less money for a deposit later but more comfort now.

I can't decide... Did any of you live to regret the money spent renting an apartment?

If your goal is to save for a deposit then minimise rent / sub let and get a second job perhaps. That way you don't have to see your flat mates much

    Alt is rent forever

How old are you? Around the age of 25 I decided I could no longer share where I lived. It gets to the point where you need your own space.

You might want to inform the citizens of Rome then.

Nope, but I do regret tying myself down with a mortgage though.

Is there a joke about Romans and Rent? Is that the reason for this thread?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The poor plebs. Sure the poor Romans lived in tiny apartments where they couldn't even cook because it was too hazardous as everything was highly flammable and poorly constructed. The whole building would go up in flames. You don't want to be following in their footsteps, OP.

Older than 25 :o I can see your point but you *could* rough it out
to get more of a deposit together. If you see what I mean.

Bought my first house over 10 years ago..

Walked into the bank, approved for 3 times the amount I needed. Only borrowed what I needed.

Was told I'd have to come up with 8% myself. Had no savings, borrowed the money from the credit union.

Mortgage for 3 bed house was less than what I was spending on rent.

I don't know how people manage now.
