Firebird 90 Boiler - Airlock

I have a Firebird 90 boiler which I guess has an airlock as it had run out of oil and now won't start. I have tried loosening the nut circled in red with an allen key and hitting reset. But the boiler just cuts out again.

Is there anything else I can try myself but getting someone to look at it?

Slacken the blanking nut on the pump, 15mm or 16mm socket I think.

Which one is that, the one on bottom?

If you haven't oil coming out of that Allen plug when loosened, then you either haven't enough oil or an airlock in the line. How much oil have you ?

Don't run the burner with that plug loosened.

There's only a jerry can of oil in it, maybe 10 litres. So you think I need more?

Unless your tank is a good height above the burner, even 100 litres (never mind 10) might not be enough to give you oil at the bleed point.
Anyway that seem to be the problem.
Don't press the reset too often. Running the pump when dry will ruin it.

Thanks a million have oil ordered so will give it a go then. I do remember plumber originally putting jerry can of oil in and getting boiler going when I first bought house but maybe he was doing something else besides airlock.
