I'm looking for a car for basic purposes really, Monday to Friday in and out of work 15 minutes each way, some shopping errands during weekend and the odd trip to Dublin or Galway during time off. I don't have a family and storage is not a big deal for me I just need something reliable. Budget of 12k I'm torn between a 2009 Focus petrol with fifty thousand on the clock or a brand new Nissan Quashio (sorry for spelling !) which is quite big but very smooth to drive and its diesel. I would be willing to go on finance for the Nissan but I'm torn as to which brand I should pick any ideas?

    Petrol anyway if short trips.

Pick a car you like the look of and maybe drive afew and go from there.

    Everyone is different

The new Qashqai is available in petrol too, 1.2 litre turbo. Your driving style sounds like a petrol is more suitable.

Benefits of a brand new car - no previous unknown history of trouble, long manufacturer's warranty, cheap finance, car will still be relatively new when you go to sell it on.

Benefits of a second hand older car - cheaper to buy, already suffered high depreciation.

Only you can decide which is more suitable to you.
