Audi TT 180 / 225 - spot the difference?

Has an Audi TT 180 Quattro got one exhaust, and a 225 two exhausts? Without seeing the log book, is that a simple distinction that can be made to differentiate between them? Or can a 180 be "upgraded" to 225BHP with one exhaust?

The 225bhp TT has a bigger turbo than the 180bhp engine.

A 180bhp TT can be remapped to approx 210bhp (more with other supporting modifications)

Thanks, obviously need to know for insurance purposes. Dealer is advertising car as a 225, but it only has single exhaust.

I'd have thought the ones with the VR6 engines, made until last year, were the ones with the dual exhausts.

Guessing you're talking about the first generation models, stock 180bhp TT has a single exhaust, 225bhp has 2. Both are 1.8l turbo engines. The V6 was 3.2l 265bhp naturally aspirated & also had 2 exhausts but you could tell the difference immediately if you lifted the hood. As far as I remember the V6 version was only available with the DSG gearbox.

As far as telling the two 1.8l models apart, if someone did a good job of fitting a 225 exhaust on the 180 model (you might have to change the rear bumper or alter it in some way) the vehicle VLC might be able to tell you the bhp value of the car.

List of engine codes here and where to find them. Not sure where on a tt but there is normally a vehicle data sticker either on the back of the fuse box cover or in the the spare wheel well.

I'd say putting the reg into cartell.ie would tell you.

Is the the badge in the 225 outlined in red?

My Dad had one of the 180's years ago & the TT badge on the back was outlined in red. I think they all were.

The 225 has a pair of intercoolers.
