    Hi folks,

Probably loads of threads such as this, and I have browsed alright and got some good advice - but just throwing this query out there to see what people who might know a bit more think.

I am travelling 100km a day for work. Currently, I have a 06 Megane petrol. Quite fond of the car actually - have had little to no hassle with the car save for expected wear and tear....some people I talk to have no time for Renaults, but I have only had good experience.

But the cost of petrol is high at the moment, and I would love to cut down on tax costs, NCT, etc. for the foreseeable future.

I have explored options for new cars, and for something approximately 250-300 euros a month, I think within my budget I would be doing quite well. Has anyone had any experience of looking within that price range?

I was looking up Dacia Dusters recently, and the price is fantastic for a new car. Has anyone had recent experience of these?

Write down what you actually spend on fuel per year.
    Then tax
    Add €55 for an nct

You won't actually save money by buying a new car.

Is your megane 1.4? €385 tax?
Spending €3600 pa to save €185 doesn't make sense.

You will save some money on fuel of course.

Yeah, that is true. Certainly, I know I wouldn't be saving money.

I'm just aware that this car won't last forever, and I am finally in a position to buy a car that will last me for the next good few years, and as such am just fishing for any deals that might strike people as good value.

Did you price a new Megane 1.5 dci?? Dealers are doing 5000 discounts on the last of the current model before the new ones come in, think you can get a new one for circa 18500 with a lot of spec. Dacia's are a very basic car and feel much cheaper

    Cheers Casati...

That sounds like a decent offer. Have you experience with those Meganes? Looking it up on Google, the back of them is more curved compared to my model....actually think my model is nicer on the eye!

But I wold be interested in a Diesel version alright...

Also, cheers for the view on the Dacia Duster...I see so many of them on the road now, now that I've taken note of them. Interior looks very basic alright.

The Mk3 Megane is a huge improvement on the Mk2 so if your happy with your Mk2 then obviously the Mk3 will be a step up. Very few petrol Mk3 Meganes around, majority are 1.5 litre diesel with 86bhp or 110bhp. I think the 110bhp is 6 speed which is good for motorway driving. Will feel alot nippier than your current petrol model.

BTW if you are not gone on the shape of the Megane, then look at the Fluence, it's basically a saloon version of the Megane and generally tend to be a bit higher spec than the Megane. Should be able to get a similar deal on both.

Yeah, came across the Fluence alright...looks like a lovely car.

    Cheers for the advice.
