Plant away if its just a cover crop, I think Nov/Dec is the earliest if you want to harvest them

I heard of lads doing it, I think they shook them with a spinner and then ploughed them in, never grew them myself though. Don't sue me if it goes wrong, ask tillage men locally.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    Hi MF

I have reclaimed some land and because it had to be re-profiled the fertility will be very poor so I'm going to use a green manure. Unfortunately the sh!t weather means I'll have to wait until spring. I found this article from teagasc about spring beans when I was looking at green manure research so it might help.

I cant post a url but google this site

Op, if you plant the spring bean seed in Autumn they will germinate and grow but I don't think you'd get much of a response from them as a green manure, my understanding is that nitrogen fixation in the root nodules is quite soil temperature dependent and as we are heading into the time of year where soil temps can drop quite rapidly I wouldn't think you'll get any fixation.

The other problem I'd see is that beans coming through the soil late in the year will be a magnet for crows, unless you like shooting I'd steer clear.
