Going to install a new groupset onto my bike - 105 5800.
Kit said it comes with gear cables - what other cables do I need ? Just brake cables or should I go for better gear and brake cables like jagwire?

If it's a complete group set I'd imagine it comes with both cable sets.

They'll be perfectly adequate for the job and probably little difference with a jagwire kit which you can upgrade to next time if you wish.

I upgraded to 105 5800 over Christmas. The kit comes with the inner & outer cables for both gears and brakes and they work perfectly fine. Almost 3,500km on them now and apart from the initial set up, I've never had to adjust them - not even for stretching from new.

As posted above, you might as well use them and change them when the time comes. I don't see any point in spending even more money on cables when the Shimano ones will do the job.

No I don't think so are no issues with my brakes at the minute, I have to change my rear brake cable every few months as it gets stiff and a new cable sorts it.
I'm assuming shimano cables but it does not say just says gear cables included.

Mine only came with cables attached to the shifters and no other cables , got it from wiggle UK.

most likely depends if it is full groupset or just the gear system (no brakes)

I got mine from Merlin. The deal I got was one of their packages that the use to fit to bikes they build themselves. It came with both inner brake cables, ones outer cable for the front brake and two outer sections for the rear brake. All out cables carry the Shimano branding. It was also about €30 less than the normal groupset offer but came without any any Shimano packaging or fitting instructions.

Something like the link below except mine was with 175mm cranks and a 11-28T cassette.

Mine was from here - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-5800-groupset/

Some of the Q&As asked about cables and some answers were yes and some no.

Funny, I was just about to buy a new set of cables, haven't changed the ones on my cyclocross bike for almost 2 years. I have heard it said that one of the strengths of the newer Shimano groupsets (5800, 6800 etc) is that there is less friction in the cables because they are polymer coated, so I'd say that if you are getting new cables with the groupset, you may as well fit them. The cables and the change in cable routing, longer FD lever arm etc should give much smoother shifting. In my own case, I'm planning on getting a set of Jagwire cables, as apparently compressionless brake housing is supposed to be good with cable actuated disc brakes. I've also read that the Jagwire link housing is rather good-anyone have it and is it worth the small fortune it costs?
