Doesn't look like there are any plans for it to ever be.

TV3 isn't even on Saorsat ideally they should be dropped from Saorview as they are a pathetic excuse for a channel.

Going to lose a lot of viewers for the rugby world cup to ITV because of this.

I had a quick look at the sd version to make me realise how great ITV HD is. And as for that onscreen logo with tv3 a total no no.

    Ah well bye bye tv3.

Is it just me or is the SD TV3 picture way worse than the SD TG4 pic? Watching rugby games on TG4 and it seems the pic is much better.

Switching between UTV HD on Freeview HD and TV3 on Saorview for the Ire v Can match, the difference in quality is shocking.

Yeah same here. Even the adverts appear to be in a lower resolution on TV3 than TG4.

They should be kicked off Saorview, they're not paying for it and the quality is dire

Couldn't agree more. Thought initially that I'd watch the RWC on TV3 because of the irish presentation. But the difference in picture quality is quite dramatic. The TV3 coverage would remind you of a rickety old VHS recording in comparison to ITV's HD picture.

Couldn't agree more, thought about TV3 but after a brief period it was over to ITV HD pretty rapid.

On a commercial point of view, I've seen it referenced somewhere around here that 600,000 households/viewers depend on Soarview for their TV signal, any of those who saw the six nations on RTÉ 2 HD must be reasonably cheesed off with the picture quality on offer by TV3. If any of those are total rugby heads, I'm pretty sure they'll be off down to Argos/Harvey's/Curry's or whoever for a FTA HD STB.

The itv commentators are awful though. I switched back to blurry tv3 they were so bad.

I know this is well off topic here but on the commentary side of things, RTÉ's commentary on Rugby beats all the UK broadcasters hands down, the soccer punditry is also vastly superior despite all the public bashing RTÉ have to take. Shame they lost out to an inferior production.

I agree with you all guys, it is shocking stuff. Watching the game on my new Samsung 40" tv is a real treat on ITV HD. At times I'd switch back to TV3 on Saorview and said to myself "have they any shame" with fuzzy VHS pictures like that I got sore eyes.
Folks, this is serious and serious for TV3, they need to sort out a deal of some kind with the Minster for Communications and 2rn. It won't be long when they will be in trouble.
    ITS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Sickened with the lack of HD on Saoirview for the world cup. When Tur camera zooms out you can't make out who is who. I don't have any other options.

I'll try a stream for the next game maybe as the quality would probably be better.

Well the irb sold them the rights, so maybe they should get grief about it.

Why are TV3 allowed to get away with NOT broadcasting on Saorview in HD?

Because there's nothing in the terms of their licence that compels them to do so, perhaps?

Because they can get away with not doing so. The Minister, Comreg, or the BAI could act to force them to by changing the cost of Saorview carriage.

The two muxes are owned by RTE, and RTE carries debt wrt those two muxes. They should be allowed a reasonable return on that investment.

Are the carriage agreements with the likes of TV3 done on a yearly basis or for longer terms?

I would like to see the minimum option for TV channel carriage to be for a HD channel. Up to the TV companies then if they wish to use it for HD or not.

That would at minimum ensure a better division of costs between users of Saorview broadcasting.
