    Hi All

Good discussion here in the past. I have applied for a her number a few weeks back in the hope of starting to farm the family 30 acre "land"
I have just turned 41 and I don't have a green cert, I work full-time and run a small business also. I are planning to build a house on the land I would like the kids to grow up on a working farm. My father has just cut silage and hay off the land for years so we have no entitlements. Initially I plan to summer graze and take it from there. The land needs a bit of work, fencing, some reseeding and a crush. My question is: if I wanted to buy entitlements for SFP, or Basis Farm Payment as I think it is called now, how much could I expect/should I pay for them or is it even worth considering it? Maybe better off just tipping away and not getting into it.

    Cheers
    Monaghan wanabe farmer!

    Why not?
Find an enterprise you and maybe kids will get something out of, be hobby pedigrees or ponies etc. Dont go commercial you ll make no money worth talking about and it will eat your time as much as a small scale fun enterprise & maybe without the enjoyment. If I was you would buy entitlements as well....
