Would you date a robot?

The "Would you date someone overweight" and "Will a robot take your job" threads were right together, and I kinda just quickly skimmed over it and my brain somehow put them together as "Would you date a robot?" and I thought that was too good a thread not to exist.

As for me? No, I would not date a robot. If Futurama has taught me anything, it's DON'T. DATE. ROBOTS.

You know the sort that posts here. You should know that the question you should be asking doesn't relate to "dating". And the answer to the question you should be asking can be guessed at by the fact that you don't have to buy them chips beforehand.

Nope, wouldn't interest me at all really. They'd constantly require maintenance, and then once a month they'd completely shut down for a week for software upgrades, be as tempremental as fcuk for a week afterwards and then they'd constantly require you to click 'ok' if you wanted to do anything...

Women are much easier to handle :pac:

Better do it while you have a chance.

Intelligent machines: Call for a ban on robots designed as sex toys

A campaign has been launched calling for a ban on the development of robots that can be used for sex.

Such a use of the technology is unnecessary and undesirable, said campaign leader Dr Kathleen Richardson.

Sex dolls already on the market are becoming more sophisticated and some are now hoping to build artificial intelligence into their products.
Chief executive Douglas Hines believes there is a real need for products such as Roxxxy.

"We are not supplanting the wife or trying to replace a girlfriend. This is a solution for people who are between relationships or someone who has lost a spouse.

If there's an off-switch I'd definitely date a robot, can you imagine - you're in the middle of an argument or the person is prattling on about something that doesn't interest you so you just reach over like you're giving them a hug and then you just press the off-switch and enjoy the silence :D

It depends. I mean what sort of robot are we talking about here? If it gives me sex and cuddles everyday then that would be pretty good. Hmm what else. Stays up late with me talking crap and drinking wine. Tom Waits filling the room. Maybe a bit of Leonard to get us in the mood.

A woman of simple needs am I.

No, robosexuality is unnatural. The Russian versions leave their vibrating vaginas in the sink anyway.

If they were programmed to clean and cook, possible mind the kids too.. I'd think about it but it'd be an open relationship and I would continuously have a headache of some sort that painkillers wouldn't work on.

Archer: Why in the sink…is your vagina?!

Katya: Why? (chuckle) Darling, it was dirty.

Woodhouse: The remedy for which, Miss, if you’ll forgive my boldness-

Katya: Da, Please Woodhouse, I think boldness is needed. What do you suggest?

Woodhouse: White vinegar, mineral oil, and elbow grease. Same thing we used in the RAF to clean the engines of our Sopwith Camels.

I can only really think of robots in a way to serve me and part of the fun and thrill of dating is making the other person happy and that the feeling is mutual.

I suppose if they were so realistic and you never knew they were a robot then you wouldnt know any better i guess.

Though it is hard to separate feelings if something is so realistic. Like at the end of terminator two, i was sad when arnie is lowered down on that chain to be melted to his destruction in a kind of robot suicide for the better of mankind and the little red light in his eye goes out and that was a film about a robot and it still envoked empathy and emotion in me for the fictional robot!

Or turn off for that matter, personally I can see certain advantages of keeping a robot wife but that's neither here nor there. However, who in gods name wants a hormonal, moody chunk of steel giving them an arseache once a month. Also quite dangerous if yourself and the wife get caught short in a sudden lightening storm, that could lead to fatalities. Think about that.

We are a bit away from natural feeling robots that could keep us happy sexually I'd imagine.

How far are we away from virtual reality suits that could keep us infinitely happier sexually than a robot? Imagine the possibilities.......... :o:o:o

Robophobia's going to become a thing, isn't it...

I'm sure feminists will argue that 'female robots' are:

    1. Being exploited to the point that will result in men trying to use real women purely for sexual gratification and treating them like robots.

    2. Stealing real women's identity.

    3. Man's way of trying to destroy women.

    4. Too sexy! Real women don't look like that!

    5. All of the above

There was a line in "No Offence" - possibly the one of the highlights.

"His sort couldn't find a clit without a search engine."

Oh yes, there will be super male robots so some men can complain that women are choosing tall robots with big penises and that they can't get a look in because they are short arses with micro penises and it is so unfair :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,786 ✭✭✭wakka12

If they had consciousness and emotions just like us then yes,why wouldnt you..they are essentially the exact same as us. But if they were simply machines that looked human, but had no unique cognitive abilities or consciousness then most certainly not. Im completely against the installation of consciousness in robots if it were possible, but if it were to occur then yes Id date robots with human emotions and consciousness.
