Hi my mother has the above diagnosis. Going on 15 years plus. She had surgery 10 years ago and got half a disc removed. Operation was a success for a year and since then her condition has deteriorated. She is on the maximum amount and strength of medication possible just to allow her to get up in the morning and that does not give her complete relief. Her tolerance is obviously built up and it's got to the stage where she is overlapping her days where she is due to change a medication patch just to allow her to move.

She was under Neurosurgeon Micheal O sullivan in CUMH. He told her last year after a long wait on the public system that there was nothing he could do for. In a meeting with another surgeon Orthopedic surgeon Declan Reidy took her case. In the last month he ordered mri etc and told her today that he can't do anything for her either.

To say she is devastated is not enough of a word. She was basically given a death sentence.I'm terrified for the future and what lies ahead. If the medication doesn't kill her I worry she might herself. She is only 45 years old.

Can anyone give any suggestions on anything. Should we look for more opinions. She doesn't have health insurance. Is on disability benefit due to this. We had our hopes up for surgery. She has had nerve block injections. Facet injections. They just don't work for her. She would rather be paralysed from the waist down than suffer the way she is. And in truth I would too.

Anyone have any information. Consultant names??? thanks
