Boiler works but no heat

    Hi,
I bought an old bungalow recently and only this weekend decided to fire up the boiler. It's a Firebird heatpac 90.

It starts up fine but only stays switched on for a few minutes. When it goes off, the pipe at the boiler itself is very hot. However, in the house itself, the top of two of the radiators gets slightly warm. Nothing on the rest.
The hot water cylinder is very slightly warm also.

It seems like something is blocked somewhere and when the boiler reaches it's temperature, it switches itself off.

I rang a plumber today but he won't be able to come out until Friday. So I'm wondering if there is anything I can do in the meantime to fix this?

    Thanks.

Poor circulating pump, partially closed valve or sludged up system.

Best to wait for your plumber.

Yup. The sludged up system is my guess too. Heating would not have been in use for a couple of years so those pipes are probably full of s***e.

Your pump is not circulating!the armature may just stuck from lack of use.
a/leave boiler cool down and turn off power to the pump and boiler
b/place a bowl under pump and remove the large screw at end of pump with a flat head screwdriver
c/behind the screw you will be able to locate a slot with a flat head screwdriver.twist this left and right until you get less resistance, and then spin it quickly and you should feel almost no resistance.refit screw and start up

I took out the pump for a look and it seems fine. It's definitely spinning.
Plumber should be here on Friday so I am interested to see what he says.
