Learner permit expiring!

    Hi there.

    My learner permit is up now next week and i have my 12 lessons done. So im just going to apply for my license but wonder do i need to renew my learner permit ? Should i bother or try to wing it.. don't want to pay another 35 euro.

    You need to have a valid license to do the test, so unless you have the test before the license expires, you'll need to renew it.

    No eyesight test needed, but you will need to submit the medical report form with the assistance of your GP. A learner permit costs €35.

    You won't need an eyesight report and you should book an NDLS appointment although they do have drop-in slots but you need to allow for potentially long wait.

    You may not need a medical report either. It depends on when you last submitted one (presumably for the C learner permit that is expiring). For example, if you submitted a medical report 2 years ago that signed you off for 5 years, then you're covered and you just need to renew in the normal way. If you're not sure, the best way to check if you have a medical on file is to call the NDLS- they will also explain what else you need to bring with you to renew.
