Hi everyone new to the form

I have a Ford connect 1.8tdci was driving it and it just died on me

    Things I have checked
Fault coads but only one showing is egr valve and was runing with that cold for over a year no other coads on ecu atal
Also I have checked I'm getin fuel to engine bleed the system out and still no fire atal will turn over but just won't fire
Tryed to tow it to get it started but I left the hose undone goin to injector I tightened that up and it started
Ran for about 20 min then just died on me agen if I put it in first gear n let out clutch a few times it will try to fire but die agen in seconds

    Could it be bad filter?
Could it be the regulator on the pump?

Any help will be Grateley appreciated thanks

I have a Haynes Manual beside me for Focus TDCI Duratorq 01-04. I had a Crankshaft Sensor fault on my TDCI engine in a Focus, caused it to go into limp mode, sometimes wouldnt start at all, left it for an hour then it would start. Fault code should show up though.

Some of Haynes suggestions if it turns over but wont startt:

    Fuel cut off switch energised
    Tank Empty
    Battery Flat
    Battery Terminals connections loose
Immobiliser fault or uncoded key being used
*crankshaft sensor fault (I had this myself, car would die, not start, start later on. Fault code should show up though).
    pre heating system faulty
    fuel injection system fault
    Air in fuel system

Suggestions if engine starts but stops immediately:

    Blocked injectors
    Air in fuel

    Suggestions if engine stalls:

    Fuel filter choked
    Fuel pump faulty
Fuel tank vent blocked or fuel pipes restricted
    Blocked/faulty injectors

    Good Luck

Thanks for the reply I have no coads on the engine only egr valve recirculation gas high

Was thinking might be fuel filter so will change that tomorrow after I towed it it started for about 20 mins hesitated a little on pull off til the revs were up then just died

Changing the fuel filter is definitely your first port of call. Devils advocate here but you didn't fill up with petrol by mistake by any chance..just a thought

If you have access to one can you connect up a fuel pressure gauge into the low pressure side of the fuel system. If there is any form of blockage or if the low pressure side of the circuit is delivering fuel at too low a pressure, the ECU will not allow the car to start. This could be occuring intermittently due to a blocked fuel filter. You would be right to swap out the filter to start with. What diagnostic equipment are you using? Some generic scanners wil not report back the full list of fault codes, you will only see generic OBD 2 compliant codes, rather than specific Ford ones.

Be aware if you go changing the filter in that you may have to prime it...I'm not sure what year yours is but the 08 ones need to be primed manually or else it definitely won't start. (Look on YouTube fior easy workarounds)
Think in fact there's no pick up pump in the tank...its reliant on the vacuum from high pressure pump to get it from tank to high pressure pump.
    Marty.
