Rubbish refresh rate, and also, 4k is not worth it at 50'', let alone 40''.

How is 60hz a rubbish refresh rate?

I guarantee you motion blur will be constantly noticeable this TV. The thread on HUKD will tell you everything.

Is that because of 60Hz being a rubbish refresh rate, or because the set has a bad panel/processing?

Unlike Samsung and other branded panels, you do not get the additional motion processing that they build in to the software. The panel itself used is also poor. Honestly at this price point you cannot expect much, but you'd really be better off getting a very good Full HD branded panel instead for a little more money.

I was looking at a 50inch LG 4K tv in argos the other day and I though the image looked lifelike.

So is it the bad processing and panel is gonna cause the motion blur you mentioned, or is it the refresh rate?

Depends how close you sit from it really. The human eye can only pick up so much. :P

Personally, if I was splashing out big money on a TV (as in €2,000+) I'd go for an OLED (1080p or 4k) panel. Just beautiful. Plasma-like black levels.

It would be mostly down to the panel itself really. These TV's (obviously) use cheap panels, therefore you will get cheap performance. Most panels have a 50hz/60hz ACTUAL refresh rate, the rest is down to the manufacturer's built-in processing software on top of that. As far as I can make out, this TV has none.

I wouldn't touch Currys with a barge pole.

No mention of a 5 year warranty on that. Only the expensive sets come with that free (and Curry's advertise it as though they are providing it and doing you a favour, when really it's a manufacturer offer).

Try RicherSounds, they are excellent to deal with. 6 year warranty free with nearly all their TV's too.

Every tv expect for a computer monitor is going to have lag on it.

My Gaming Monitor has lag of 1ms while my LG 50inch 4K Lag is like 100ms on it.

Big difference. But being honest i cant tell at all .

Yeah that's right. I sit about 6 foot my my current Samsung 40inch Tv. I've a quite small living room in my flat !

I'd totally agree with that. I do miss my 50" panny plasma I once owned. Deep blacks. My next TV will be an OLED 4k , 65" preferably ! It's gonna be a while before that will be even moderately affordable though :/ But something to look forward too : )

It won't be Curry's it is in my local expert shop and u wascassured this is one of the he higher end ones that has a 5 year warranty.
What do you reckon of the TV itself?
    Richer sounds is an option.
    Thanks

I honestly haven't seen the cheaper Pana's/Sony's come with free 5 year warrantys, only the higher end ones. I'd double check that before buying if I were you.

I will indeed and get it in writing.
How would you rate the TV itself?
I had my eye on an LG but was advised this would be a better option.

    100ms really?

    That's 1/10th of a second.

    Hopefully you ment 10ms

It's a poor refresh rate and would put me off. My Sony Bravia is 200hz for instance.

It may not actually be 200hz, manufacturers use a lot of made up numbers when it comes to this.

This has 2 usb ports and a LAN socket?

Is it a smart TV or what else would require such connections?

Yeah 100ms is woeful. As in, your games controller has something like 30ms lag. 100ms would make certain games frustratingly unplayable.

I think it is great but I know some people are picky with their tv's. In my opinion the sound is perfect and the picture is amazing

I have the older model of this (40w605b) and I couldn't be happier with it. Seriously considering buying one of this model for another room in the house.

I waited a long time before pulling the trigger on a TV and the reviews were just too good for a TV priced at the lower end of the market so I went for it. The model linked above is getting similar good reviews so I'd say it's a good bet. That's pretty much as cheap as you will get it too, it's 599 in Harvey Norman is you wanted to just get it on the spot for an extra 10er too.

The sound is fine on it but I use it with an external system as I would with any tv as no TV generates much bass etc.

    ^^
    Thanks
The only thing holding me back now is the warranty.
They are also out of stuck and will not have any for 2 weeks.
Local dealer assured me it is in fact a 5 year warranty.
But Looking at online stores it says 12 months.

I may ring Currys and ask them about the warranty.

They will want you to buy their add-on warranty, so don't expect a correct answer. They often omit the warranty info from their tickets for the sets to sell their add-ons.

I have the 48" version of the W605 and would agree that it is a fantastic TV. The picture quality is really very very good and I am extremely pleased with it. I have a Sony 40" from about three years previous and the advances in the picture quality in that time was amazing.

I actually messaged DID electrical and the rep there confirmed a 5 year warranty was on it once registered with Sony.

any chance this thread could be kept to the Aldi tv - keep coming back to see what comments people have that purchased it but can only see conversations about other televisions.

    http://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/fake-refresh-rates-samsung-clear-motion-rate-vs-sony-motionflow-vs-lg-trumotion

And also, what input are people using to get more than 50hz? For 99% of TV watching, 100hz is overkill!

I picked up one of the Aldi "4K" TVs. The picture quality is really disappointing: colour clumping, poor motion handling, lousy contrast, washed out colours if you turn down saturation. The PQ controls are inadequate to say the least, but I doubt there's much you could get out of this panel anyway. It would not play 4k MPEG4 from USB. It's OK as a bedroom TV, provided you are sitting far enough away.

It's hard to figure why you wouldn't buy from Richersounds, as linked by Techmaster earlier ,having dealt with them before myself and seeing first hand how they handled warranty issue on sister's Samsung, couldn't recommend them enough, plus you're getting extra years warranty and free delivery for a tenner less

Tossing a coin to be honest.

That's disappointing to hear. Interesting to hear about file playback issues also.
