    Hi,

I hope this is posted in the right section.

Me and my colleagues were due in work Sunday night. We work 40hrs/week Sunday - Thursday nights.

When arriving Sunday evening the premises was closed and no one there. We were due to start work at 10pm.

One of my colleagues received a call at 10:15pm from the day-time supervisor saying that the night-shift supervisor was sick and was not going to be in.

He said we could head home and work 4 x 10hr shifts for the rest of the week (which was fair enough - we weren't going to be losing any money). What annoyed us was that some of us travel a 50km round trip to work and we were given no notice, even though we all showed up.

Are we entitled to any ''show up pay'' to get paid for the day we were due to work or even an hour or two pay to cover petrol?

We asked the site manager and he said he'll look into it next week, as far as we're aware it doesn't look like a big deal to them since we'll be getting our 40hrs anyway this week. It say's nothing in our contract about no-shows or what to do if a supervisor is absent.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I'd push for it, as you showed up as rostered and available for work.
It's not your fault he never showed up, and the poor notice he gave was disrespectful to ye.

I'd be making a claim for reasonable out of pocket expenses such as unnecessary travel.

We got sorted. Got a few hours pay as overtime rate.
