As a general rule of thumb.... buy Japanese or German when it comes to cars.

The Peugeot is French and will (most likely) not be that reliable - although there are always exceptions to the rule.

I would consider another Nissan Micra (Japanese) or a Toyota Yaris (Japanese). Both of these should be super reliable, easy to run, insure etc etc

they're fun to drive but it's hard to recommend one. gheyre quite unsafe in a crash and a very old design now

with your budget I'd be looking at a Clio.

Cheers for the advice, I like the look of them that's why I was considering it. I'll probably end up with another micra given how reliable I've found them and there's plenty to choose from. At least I'll have power steering this time around. :o

About as useful a rule as saying 'buy a blue or red car when it comes to cars'
