I've just started using Lidl Deluxe Guatemalan - strength 4 - it's my breakfast coffee, and I am very pleased with it. €2.49 for 200g.

Aldi's Alcafe Original Blend Strength 3 is very nice, prefer it to any Starbucks, Nescafe etc... Only 2 something! The smell is worth waking up to in the morning

I'm a big fan of both Lidl and Aldi and actually prefer a lot of their products to main brands but the coffee is pretty much the only thing I just don't think they do very well. I find most of them very bitter.

I was the exact same before trying this blend, never liked either of they're selection but this is the only coffee I buy at the moment :) Did you try it?

You ask about ground coffee but just in case you see the light :) ...
Lidl do a special from time to time on 1kg bags of "italiamo" espresso whole bean coffee. It's superb, and about the same price you'd pay in Italian supermarkets.

Aldi have an Ethiopian blend in a black bag (Specially Selected?) which is lovely. Quite strong. Not sure how you're making your coffee - it's more suited for a cafetiere than a moka pot.

There's also one in a cream bag which is called French Blend (I think) which has been recommended to me - I bought a bag of it but haven't got around to trying it yet. Recommendation comes from someone who really does like their coffee!

Yep. Been voted the best coffee by Which? magazine. Only €2.49 for 200g

The Aldi Specialty Selected Rich Java (picture of a Jaguar on it) is the best IMHO. Someone starting cleaning them out leaving behind nothing but Kenyan and Etheopian (which are good, but not as good). So now I'm hoarding too. Since I work at home I go through 3 a week so I honestly worry about keeping them in stock in my pantry.

Which Aldi/Lidl ground coffee would be good for an Aeropress (or does it make a difference)?

Looking for a strong blend, but nice flavour too.

Note: I'm not looking for beans.

i got some on the back of your recommendation. it's actually quite nice. wouldn't jump up high on the list of my favourites but it's great stuff to have around and very drinkable

The Lidl deluxe ground espresso in the round tub with the plastic lid is one of my favorites in an espresso machine. Their Nespresso compatible ones are good as well as long as you stick to the recommended cup sizes.

I'm heading into Lidl today, which one of the aforementioned Lidl ground coffees would be best for an Aeropress?

(i.e. in terms of ideal grind size etc)

    Cheers

Agree with you OP, nothing beats the red kenko.

But then again my uncle got some coffee in aldi and it was absolutely gorgeous I think the hot was either black or dark green and gold and I can't remember the name of it. If I remembered it id prob get it. It was nice but still.... I'm used to and like what I know

I tried this in my moka pot and thought it excellent. In general, its far too coarse a grind to be suitable for a moka pot, but I find using a very low heat with such a grind gives decent results. In the case of this coffee, a damn fine cup of coffee with even some crema.

Quick question lads. Milicano is my usual and always get it on offer but was in tesco today and was 9.99 for the usual tin...I'm not paying it. Anyone have a similar Aldi/lidl replacement? I had the Aldi budget brand before not sure of the name and hated it!

I tried the Lidl Deluxe Java Sumatran in my aeropress and it's pretty good although perhaps a bit too strong (normally I like it as strong as possible, but this seems to be giving me slight headaches!), so I'll try the next strength down next time.

Worth checking out if u are looking for a replacement

Is there roast dates on any of these bags?

Just FYI: I've never came across a 'strength rating' in the industry only in supermarkets. As far as I can understand it's a measure of how much robusta is in the blend or how dark it's been roasted or a combination of both. I am morbidly curious but it's hard to take a coffee even remotely serious when I see this on the bag.

I'd say it's targeted at the majority who don't really "take coffee seriously", but just find the taste stronger.

Ethiopian from Aldi - Hands down.

    Works a treat in Aeropress

Tried it in the Aeropress there yesterday and noticed the grounds were quite large so the "press" went down a little too easily so it's probably not the best for Aeropress as that requires a finer ground size (I found the Lidl Deluxe was better for Aeropress)

Tried the Ethiopian in the Moka pot today and vast improvement, damn nice coffee. The aroma coming from the bag is pretty incredible and greeted me when I opened the cupboard.

So in summary the Lidl one is probably better for aeropress, but the aldi one is great in other methods that use a coarser grind.

I'm quite fussy about my coffee and like a strong coffee at breakfast time. Lidl Guatamalan in their de luxe range works reasonably well for me.

Id recommend the lidl deluxe twin pack. Not sure of the name of it but it comes individually wrapped in a gold foil
X2 Great in a coffee filter machine. Not good in moka pot.
