Hyundai i40 Tourer (starting)

So the last car I had I never looked after at all. Had it for 10 years never got it serviced etc and it gave up on me last December. Bought a 2012 English import Hyundai i40 tourer in January this year and I love it.

Promised I'd look after this one and yesterday brought it to a well know hyundai dealer on long mile Rd dublin for its 90k service.

It is under warranty but still cost be €469 which was odd but that's another story.

Anyways upon starting the car in the lott of garage ir seemed to take a second or two to actually "fire" the engine before I drove away which was odd cos it usually started instantly before service.

This morning had to hold the key for about 3 seconds before it would start. Wtf!!

Rang garage, bringing it down in morning...I'm f***ed if I'm paying more money as there was nothing wrong up to two days ago

    Advice please?

New cars need to be looked after or they will be a money pit.

If you had of looked after the old one maybe would still be going.

Hyundai I would put in the soft range and need care to keep them right.
Most new cars need care but some less then others.

    They did indeed.

    Fair play

    Any ideas

I would guess that there may be some air in the system since replacing the filter.

FWIW we have a 1.6 diesel hyundai hitting 100k miles without any care to keep it right.

They re-replaced the fuel filter and upgraded the "seals". Car working perfect now. No extra cost

Filter change can be traumatic experience alright.

10 years without servicing sounds amazing! Which car was it and how many miles did you cover at that time? It didn't even get a single oil change?

My old yoke was a Petrol Nissan primera SVE (2005) from new. A real trooper. Drove forever (106k miles) and I am not joking when I say I never got a service for her. The odd top up with oil was about it. Completely my own fault for not servicing her but eventually between lack of nct combined with a new engine required I decided to put her out to pasture.

Don't ever try that with the i40 or any newer car as they don't last without servicing especially diesels. I think what happened with your primera is it was a mix of a more mechanically basic engine and just getting lucky not too many would last 106k miles without servicing it must of been burning a serious amount of oil and the carbon build up in the engine would be unreal.
