Have moved the turbo up stairs into the spare room as a permanent static turbo. The wife complain tonight that is was very noisy and the vibrations of it off the floor will disturb the neighbours. I had always used in on the tiled floor in the kitchen so the vibrations were never an issue.

I use was half looking around for a new one anyway and have been keeping an eye on the elite muin. It seems to get decent press about it's noise level.

It's coming in around 400 euro from bike24. The cheapest I have found so far.

Any other good options for something quiet and something that doesn't make a lot of noise.

I picked up a CycleOps SuperMagneto Pro a few months back and can't praise it enough; I use the turbo in the living room and even on the Mountain setting (toughest of the available 4 levels) at 95rpm, my missus can comfortably be in the same room, and even have the tv on at a normal level.

Living in an apartment, the issue of noise was a primary concern when picking up a turbo. I have had zero issues with this machine.

Good luck with your training! :)

Have a Muin myself. The main reason I bought it was I was sick of having to constantly mess around trying to stop the rear wheel slipping, but it is definitely way way quieter than anything else I've ever used. I use it on a wooden floor, with some old towels under it to deaden any vibrations. All you can hear is the chain and gears. Highly recommend it.

Jim, it needs to be said now.

Move the wife to the attic and continue as you were.

I have the muin too and got it for the same reason as yourself. It's pretty quiet alright but even on some old carpet and raised on foam mats the vibrations do go through the floor a bit. It is very quiet other than that though, most of the noise will be off your bike.

I'll give you an anti-recommendation. I have a Lemond Revolution and it's jet engine loud. Good turbo but you'd need a concrete bunker.

Would you recommend something like the main (direct drive) over these VR egos like the tax bushido smart. I'm looking at buying a new turbo and not sure which way to go. Currently have a basic tax satori but want something better. Is the variable resistance of the likes of the tax smart worth it for simulating hills etc while following a route or would the main be better for hammering out intervals and avoiding wheel slippage?

Ordered the Elite Muin yesterday! 400 Euro from bike24. No doubt another site has it for about 200 euro cheaper. That would be just my luck. I live in the north so I am getting a good deal with the euro being so ****.

got mine last year from the german sites as well, was 380 delivered, so pretty much the same price(20 euros extra is probably Peter Robinson's personal cut for living in the north)

doubt you'll see anything cheaper. I havent

Have the muin set up and so far I have been pretty impressed. It is definitely not silent like it is made out but it is much much quieter than other turbos I have used and seen in the past.

Does anyone that has this turbo know how to set it up for zwift?

Elite have a released their Volano trainer looks like a 'lite' version of the muin, Irish Prices have it cheaper than the muin here so might be worth keeping on eye on the price of that too from the usual german shops. No idea what it's like, just from the blurb they give about it on their site.
