    1. I’m a landlord and I want to know if my tenant has registered with Irish Water – can I obtain this information from Irish Water?

Landlords can contact Irish Water to determine if there is a person, other than themselves, registered as a customer at the property; however Irish Water will not provide the names or details of those registered.

    2. I’m a landlord and my tenant has not registered with Irish Water – what can I do to ensure the account is set up and liability for water services charges lies with my tenant?

As the landlord of the property, you can contact Irish Water and provide the name of your tenant. Irish Water will then write to your tenant to invite them to register. This will ensure that you are no longer liable for water services charges whilst the tenant continues to be the occupant of the property.

The personal data to be provided by landlords or their authorised agents is limited to the tenants’ names only and is to be used solely by Irish Water in the performance of its statutory functions under the Water Services Acts 2013, to identify who is the customer at a premises to which Irish Water is providing water and wastewater services. The provision of such names is necessary both for Irish Water to perform its statutory functions, and for Irish Water and the landlords’ legitimate interests in ensuring the correct customer is identified. As such, its processing is in accordance with the Data Protection Acts.

    3. I’m a landlord but currently have no tenant living in my property and won’t for a period of time. How will I be charged?

If your property is unoccupied then you will be the account holder and the not permanently occupied charge will apply. Please contact Irish Water to arrange this.

    4. I’m a landlord and I want to know if my tenant is ensuring that water bills are being paid for the property I own – can I obtain this information from Irish Water?

No, Irish Water cannot disclose information relating to your tenant’s account.

    5. I’m a tenant and have not registered with Irish Water – what can I expect?

We are asking tenants to register with Irish Water to ensure they are billed correctly and receive any relevant allowances. Also, as a tenant, by registering you will be eligible to apply for the €100 water conservation grant, details of which will be announced later this year. For the latest information on the water conservation grant please visit www.watergrant.ie

Households who do not register with Irish Water will receive a default bill for €260 per year per dwelling and will not be eligible to apply for the €100 water conservation grant.

    6. I’m a tenant and I will be moving into/out of a property soon, what do I need to do?

If you are moving into, or out of, a property or you want to close your account, please call us on 1890 448 448 (our lines are open from 8am-8pm, Monday to Friday and 9am-5.30pm on Saturdays) We will ask you to:

    • Provide your name, address and/or account number.
    • Agree a meter reading if your property is metered. For your convenience, we will generate an estimated meter reading or alternatively, if it is safe to do so, you can read your water meter and provide a meter reading yourself.
    • Please read our safety guidelines for reading your water meter. (If you do not agree the estimated meter reading and cannot read the meter yourself, we can read the meter for you. Your meter will be read within five working days and the meter reading charge of €17 will be applied to your bill).
    • Provide the address of the property that you’re moving into so we can transfer your account.

You can also provide a forwarding postal address so we can send you on your final bill if required.

    Hi guys,

I am a tenant and moving out the rental property on the 31st October 2015 and want to make sure that no correspondence with my name on it is posted out to my address after that date.

I sent two emails via the form on your website (one in September and one today) but unfortunately I didn't get any response.

    Can you assist?

    Thanks

    Hi frank345,

    Thanks for contacting our page.

Firstly, please accept our apologies that your emails have not been responded to as of yet. We are currently experiencing a backlog of emails as a result of the Water Conservation Grant deadline, and we endeavour to respond to all email queries as soon as possible.

In relation to your Boards query, we would suggest that you contact us on 1890 448 448. A member of our team will update your account details to reflect your move, and issue you with a final bill for your previous property. Calling us will also ensure that you are no longer deemed financially responsible for water charges to that property.

Our billing lines are open from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, and 9am-5:30pm Saturday.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Amy.
