Noise after timing belt change

Got the timing belt and water pump done today and when I got the car back (mechanic dropped it to house when I wasn't there ) there's a whining sound coming from it that wasn't there before. It's a 08 Passat, I've read that the belt will loosen over time so the sound will go. Do I need to get it back to the mechanic to look at it?

I'd suspect that the belt is over-tensioned. Timing belts are not supposed to stretch. I'd ask him to look at it again.
