I have this lined up on the PS3 to play at some stage as I picked it up there recently for cheap

The console version is letterboxes with awful frame drops into single figures and hitting 30 fps a pipe dream. Glad it's coming to a platform that will do it justice and the PC crowd will lap it up.

Brilliant news, my one pang of regret (well 2 because no replay of RDR) when I gave my 360 to the brother and joined the master race.

There's plenty of games that were console exclusive and would easily find a welcoming home on the PC, Red Dead Redemption being one of the most baffling failures to appear. But I've been burned on the incompetence of the Dark Souls ports. I'll keep an eye on it, but any decision will be dependant upon real world reviews first.

RDR rumoured to have a coding issue that made it difficult to port over (read expensive).

Would love that on PC but after playing it for so long, think i would rather a sequel/prequel.

This hasn't been on my radar at all til now. Watched a few lets play and trailers, seems similar to the witcher and dragon age games.

Has anyone played this and those games?

I really enjoyed both series, so will be watching with interest for more news.

Played TW2 and DDDA. Preferred DD when I think about it, but always forget about it as its not on PC. Hated DAO so can't judge

Now the question is... should I play with a dualshock which I'm used to for DD or try KB/M this time around? Do you think they'll make the menus navigatable with a cursor?

Man I hope it's a good port. In performance there's no way it won't be at least decent since it's MT Framework and that's the engine DMC4 used... we know it performs like magic. But a good port in design like with control schemes, rebinding, menus, hotkeys etc.

Already have 2 copies on PS3 and 360, will probably buy this too. Felt really clunky due to the terrible frame-rates, hope its a good port....whats Capcoms history in this regard?

the recent Resident Evil remake went down well

Capcom's MT Framework engine was built from the ground up as a PC engine that is ported to consoles. It's meant historically PC ports of MT Framework games have been excellent and well optimised even if there's very few extra bells and whistles, although I think they are adding new graphical tweaks to this game.

Finally some footage....hot damn that frame-rate.

Anyone on the fence of DD's awesomeness look no further than this webm.

Ha, they should have shown the lightning whips. Those were my favourite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,061 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Cant wait for this now tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

Seems decent graphically so far (it's all about framerate and removing the black bars anyway) but gonna need those texture mods for sure.

Now available for pre-purchase, and system requirements are up. €29.99 price tag ain't bad either.

I just bought this. First 'pre-order' in my life but not really since it's an old game and I've already played it + all beta players say it runs fine on humble hardware (as it should). Got it for €22.49 on DL-Gamer so happy as a clown about that :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

I'd have preordered too if I thought I'd play it right away, but alas, it'll have to wait. I was very, very tempted to buy it though.

Pre-loading this now, so looking forward to giving it a go this evening.

Yeah pre-loaded it last night. I'll be streaming it tonight on twitch.tv/mrdaylight and hitbox.tv/mrdaylight

Join me if you want to see some 360 no-scope archer arisen action with child soldier pawn. :pac:

Is this unlocked at 6pm today?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Yeah, seems like it. I really wish Steam would include a proper counter for games that are pre-loaded.

Early indications are its a fantastic port.
Just wondering how big is the open world?
Also does it have anything like a NG+ after you complete it?

I'm addicted to Grim Dawn at the moment and its deep deep gameplay but definitely interested in DD.

Open world is not anything near Witcher 3 but it's large enough. The more you stray from the main city and into the wild the stronger the enemies get. There's a handful of dungeons with their own meta.

There is a NG+ yes. That's when I stopped playing on PS3 because it became too easy but I never got the Dark Arisen expansion which is supposed to add some more depth to the game and therefore difficulty. And AFAIK you can select hard mode right from the start now which I think i'll be doing for my first playthrough on PC. More cash, XP and challenge.

Early impressions: runs very well, looks pretty good (though some dodgy textures) and plays nicely. Using the Steam controller, and after a bit of config (changed a few buttons), i'm really enjoying it.

Does this need the SSD or is HD fine?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Runs grand on my regular HD. In fact i don't even get time to read the loading tips before i'm in game.

Game is a pure mess for me on 3440x1440 super widescreen

Why do devs hate super widescreen :(

    shame about the poor graphics

tried it for 2 hours didnt really grab me so i put in for a refund. That game did not age well.

Archery w/ mouse is too good against vital points. Man this game still feels awesome to play and has been the funnest thing to stream in a while. I can't wait to try out all the weapons and play-styles that I didn't on PS3.

Performance is fine but not as good as I though it would be. Expecting 120+ FPS consistently when I have all post-processing turned off considering this thing could run on a PS3. All I get is 60-80ish with dips in places I didn't expect. Perhaps some patches, drivers and optimisation tips will start rolling out on how to get it running a little better. That pop-in is crazy though. I've had some enemies outright just dissapear in the middle of a fight... not just visually... the battle ends too! They then come back into reality moments later. Very strange.

Looking forward for cosmetic mods, textures and unarmed skills if possible but that would be a ways off.

Put in a good 5 hours there, and really enjoying it. Using the Steam Controller, and i have to say, it's absolutely fantastic for this kind of game. Plays like a regular joypad, with the right haptic as a mouse controller. Allows for some seriously quick aiming, and makes playing as a Strider really fun.

You really feel like your character improves as well, as even basic Goblins are tough at the start. Now they are satisfyingly easy :)

2 failed quests in my log (due to progressing the story)? Think i'll have to restart. Not sure my RPG OCD can handle this :pac:

Selecting hard mode will reset story progress but keep gear, character creation, level etc. I'm going to do that tonight.

So I pretty much get 1-shot by anything that's not low-tier goblins on this difficulty w/ no armour. Going to have to fully leave it to my pawns to distract them while I go for 360 noscope vital shots. 2 melees, 1 mage, me sniping. Costs 300K gold for the sinlge-use arrow that kills enemies 1-shot and dragons if you hit their heart. I've already hit their heart with regular arrows when they're airborne and it downs them most of the time but I don't get much time to follow up with many other attacks. I'm thinking I'll spot a dragon in distance and use the sniper ability I just got to time and aim it just right. If I miss it's a long, grindy fight at its life bar.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I'm currently around lvl20 (yeah, i restarted :o) and doing pretty well. Doing some random quests form Gran Soren, and flying along. Goblins and Bandits are no bother at all, though Ogres are absolute bullet (arrow?) sponges. Takes ages to kill them. Any of the bigger enemies seem to require you to climb onto them and bring them down in one way of another.

Decked out my character and main pawn there. Spent about 100k, but it was worth it. She's my tank, and i just snipe everything with my Ranger.

Biggest tip is to make sure to change pawns every 2-3 levels. They don't level with you, so keeping them for longer then that will kill you.

Level 10 and I have found pretty much every place I shouldnt go.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

It's definitely a game that punishes you for wandering off the main track. There's been a few times where I've had to leg it from a group of enemies. But there is definitely a real feel of getting stronger though, as going back and wiping the floor with those same enemies is very satisfying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

There is a bandit on the left path just after the encampment, I swear to god I will rip out his spine.

15 times he has one shotted me, no hand holding in this game took me ages to figure out when to strike him. I killed the cyclops below the bridge easy enough but this fcuking bandit!!!!! Fair few rage quits on Saturday.

    Stamina increases yeah? :(

Really liking this. It feels very similarly to Monster Hunter set in a Western Fantasy theme with a slight dash of Dark Souls.

Game has a decent learning curve in regards Vocations, Pawns, Inclinations etc

Kiith, I've been renting your Pawn for a while :P. Although I've been reading that the Pawn Renting system is bugged at the moment. Players aren't receiving items gifted from other players and not receiving any Rift Crystals.

I agree with you Dreamers that some normal mobs can be really frustrating compared to actual bosses. I was in the Alter of the Watergod and the room with all the skeletons was much, much harder than fighting a cyclops.
