NCT Query - Early Testing

hi, I got a letter this morning from the NCT to say I can test my 2012 reg (January) car before 19/10/15 and avail of a reduced rate - €28. the NCT said the date will be reset to date I do the test - I've it booked for 6th Oct 2015.

My oh seems to think I'm losing out coz now the NCT will be due for renewal in Oct 2017. He also seems to think I should get an extra 3 months but I don't think this is available on this scheme the lady in the NCT said they are only trialing.

Any advise / opinions because my thinking is I'm getting the car NCT'd for a cheaper rate and I'll still have to do it in January anyway.

If you do the NCT test more than 3 months before it's due date then the test will be valid for 2 years (in your cased) from the date it passed.

If you decide to do the test within 3 months of it's due date then your test is valid from the date you passed the test plus the 2 years from the date it was actually due.

So to summarize in your case:

Do it on 6th October for €28 and it will run until Oct 2017.
Do it in November(within 3 months of it's due date) for €55 and it will run until Jan 2018.

Yeah, test date will change from January to October if tested more than 90 days before initial test date.
You will get a disc valid to October 2017.

You're better off testing in Oct so you escape the new car tests in Jan/Feb
