Have a granite roller I'm hoping to do up during the winter. What type of wood should I use for the bearings? I am hoping to use it a little bit so it's not just for show

I think traditionally Crab apple was used to make centres for wheels because of its hardness. I doubt if it'd be easy got though.
Something like teak could be easier sourced.

I made a roller in 1976 & used teak, kept well greased & still perfect

but I must add that the roller is used very little (other than reseeding) for the last number of years

    prefer the grass harrow
