Opel Astra 2010 petrol

Hi I'm thinking of buying an Opel Astra from the year 2010 onwards, I have seen a few I like the look of and will be test driving some on my week off tomorrow. From what I have heard from other people they are supposed to be very reliable and comfortable but others say it's terrible on petrol plus the huge pillars on the front of the car create dangerous blind spots. Basically I'm looking for something to go from A to B in with occasional trips up the country. Petrol if I can and I don't need a huge amount of storage. Any pros and cons from Astra drivers?

The Astra is a very heavy car. I wouldn't say the 1.4 would be that enjoyable.
Visibility isn't great but I'd say you'd get used to it.

Non turbo 1.4 litre is woefully underpowered.
