Hi all. I am due to return to college this week after taking a year out to help a sick parent at home. I will be going into my final year and the thoughts of this fill me with dread. My parent is still sick and it is just the two of us at home. I have other siblings that live half hour away. I am dreading going back as I feel so much pressure already and don't know if I will be able to cope with the workload and helping out at home. My parent is limited at home to what they can do due to their illness so I will feel guilty being gone for most of the day knowing they are at home alone.

All my family have told me I have to go back and complete the year and as much as I agree with them I feel a panic attack looming. My siblings are in full time work and can only really come home at weekends. As bad as it sounds I wish they would help me out more. It's all well and good to tell me to go back to college but who is going to help out at home and make the dinners and just be there for my mother? I did very well in my first two years of college and I'm scared that I won't meet the same standard of achievement in the one year that matters most. I will already miss my first two days of college as I have to bring my mother to two appointments. She has appointments frequently throughout the week and I just don't know how I'm going to manage doing everything. My heart is racing just writing his and I could burst into tears.

Can your mother get a carer to help her during the day?Your siblings can help pay for it maybe?
You do need to finish your education and be able to focus, it's not fair on them to leave all the load on you.
