    Why??

    It's there on Sky too.

    And the scoreboard for the match is way too far in from the edge of the screen.

    I assume RTE still feel the need to accommodate 4:3 ratio, so the scoreboard is tucked in from the left.

    But that isn't even 4:3 safe, it's too far in even for that. The edge of the scoreboard is almost in the centre of the screen.

    Lads ye have little to be worrying about if things like this bother ye. I watched that match on an old CRT TV that's on its last legs and it did not impede my viewing whatsoever. And Sky are worse sometimes with displays clogging up the screen.

    Tv3 springs to mind with red rock etc . I didn't see any other moans bout other broadcasters doing similar . while I don't see the need for any of it and it is annoying having pointless info on screen , RTE may as well do it they must be nearly last at this stage.
