GPU Upgrade

So the time is about to come. Currently have a EVGA GTX 660 SC gpu and I'm looking to upgrade it to suit current games.

Mainly for gaming (BF4, BF3, Cities Skylines, Metro, GTAV etc)

Budget? Ideally I'd like it to be 250 but can stretch it to 300 if value is great.

Was looking at getting a 770 but there isn't many available for sale brand new so I'm considering 970.

Just a general spec of what my rig is
Intel i5 4670k oc'd to 4.2ghz, 8gb DDR3 ram, Z97-K ASUStek. Case is full ATX size so size doesn't matter for GPU.

Nice rig :) A 970 or an R9 290/390 are best bets, you should easily get a second hand 290 for €250 if not less

The cheapest 970 I found was €330, on oar with the R9 390.
The R9 290 is €285 new, so you might be best to get the 290.

A 770 would not be worth the upgrade. A 970 or 290 would be a massive upgrade for you. Don't get a reference 290, pretty much anything else is fair game though.

Apologies for hijacking the thread but quick question.

If you had a choice between a Asus DirectCU 290 (€220) or a Sapphire Tri X 290x (280), which would you go for? Is the 290x worth the extra?

Sapphire's Tri is worth it. Lower temperatures will lengthen the life of the GPU and give you more room for overclocking the card if you want.

60 quid difference is actuslly worth it for the X over the non x model.

But even more important here is that the Asus 290 cooler is unadulterated trash. The Trix cooler is far better; both cooler and queiter all around. If it's the Trix new edition even better again :)

Get the 290x well worth it and sapphire is a top card.
