There's a well discussed mod discussed online regarding upgrading your car's dipped beams from H11 to H9 bulbs. Very minor mods are made to the H9 bulb (or use an adaptor) before fitting into unmodified H11 housing.

    Why bother?

H9 bulbs are rated at 65w as opposed to 55W in H11. However light output is disproportionatly better, some say up to 40% better

Won't it fry my wiring and melt stuff?

Unlikely as the additional electrical and thermal load are 'likely' to be comfortably within design limits.

Can't I just upgrade to HID?
Not easily with NCT getting stricter each year.

Anyone done it? I'm about to go from aftermarket H11 HID to H9, I'll post when I'm done.
