Have had 2 permits. I totally gave up on driving after I renewed. I'm just so nervous on the road and couldn't cope with the stress of driving at all. Now it's come to a stage where I'm 26 and I just need to get over it. So my last permit is a year expired. Can I get a third permit because I haven't driven at all? I'm in no position to try to take a test just to fail it so I can get my 3rd permit. Any advice?

You have to apply for the test before you can get a third learner permit. You don't have to sit the actual test, you just have to apply to do it. When you apply, you'll be given a confirmation number & email. You only have to produce those to get your third permit. You don't have to prove that you sat the test. If you don't feel ready to sit the test on the date you are given, you can defer it until you are.

I've a question in relation to this, hope OP doesn't mind me asking here rather than setting up a new thread.

On the NDLS website it says in order to get a third learner permit you need

evidence - that you have sat a driving test (Failure certificate, dated within 2 years of application) or - that you have a forthcoming driving test. This must be a printed document from the RSA.

If I book a driver test via RSA all I get is an email from them confirming its been booked. Is that email printed off sufficient in order to renew my license? or what printed document is required?

Printed email is perfectly acceptable. The booking number and your personal details are there and even if you had a senior moment and forgot to bring it, the NDLS offices have other means of confirming a booking or failure is on record for you.

    Great, thank you.
