Every time September comes around I think of Monza.

I think Mercedes will have a one-two on Sunday with a Mercedes powered car finishing third. I also hope it will be a good race as Monza might not host a F1 race next year.

Nice clip here from the fastest lap of Monza set back in 2004 by Montoya. Oh that heavenly tune.

I read earlier that Merc have used 7 tokens on their engine, they could probably go back in time.

Top speed last year was 362.1km/h (225mph), I think we could see 370 at least.

As much as I would like Monza to keep on hosting a GP, I'm not very happy with some of the track.

The first chicane (Variante del Rettifilio) is a right arse of a thing and the tarmac put down outside Parabolica is unforgivable.

Thanks for the advice on the weekend lads. Heading to the track now for free practice one! Will put up a few pictures etc.

Mercedes are going to prance off into the distance this weekend.

The FP1 times would seem to suggest it's business as usual anyway. It got me wondering, are we in for a complete snore fest next season, as a result of major reg changes for 2017 (ie, there won't be much investment for 2016 given there are so many changes ahoy)?

Agreed. Sainz must have read this before FP1 and beached his car for old times' sake!

They used all their engine tokens for this race, and effectively introduced their 2016 engine.

Rosberg has to change his engine. He'll be using the engine from Spa So no penalty. Let's hope it holds up and can keep pressure on Lewis.

Christian Horner joked that the teams are competing for who can rack up the most engine penalties for this race. They're trying to get them all out of the way so they'll have the ability to use all their engines for the rest of the season, thinking that they can't get further back than the back of the grid, and Monza will allow more overtaking opportunities than e.g. Singapore.

He got out, but no qualifying lap - and that was before his car had a high speed wardrobe malfunction.

Looks like that engine change really hurt Rosberg. Lewis untouchable as always, great to see Raikkonen finding the loud pedal in that Ferrari again.

Great to see the Ferraris at the sharp end for the race today and kudos to Kimi for putting in that lap. Hopefully he's getting back to his old self. I think Lewis will be in a Ferrari sandwich by the first corner.

Hopefully Ferrari can challenge today. Won't be watching the race til highlights this evening.
How's strategy looking? 1 all the way?

This after Ferrari just renewed his contract, under the nose of the Ferrari chairman ... if he puts a paper bag over his head after the race, I won't blame him. :o

So much for Honda having as much grunt as Renault. Arai will probably say that it's the DRS that's the weak link.

Jesus Merhi (and Joseph!). That was close!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,074 ✭✭✭✭bnt

Did Merhi fall asleep there? He nearly rear-ended Raikkonen, who had correctly slowed down for the pit lane.

I disagree, Kimi was very slow a long way before the pit limiter line.

Is Hamilton in line for a penalty I wonder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭smellslikeshoes

I wonder did Lewis do something naughty that wasn't picked up on camera that the team were worried could result in a drive thru, would explain why they wouldn't want to explain the reason over the radio.

Very strange antics from Mercedes! Wonder when they will let the big secret out.
