    Hi,

My son will be turning 4 in Oct,

He is starting preschool this Sept, today actually, can anyone tell me if he needs to go in 5 mornings a week, I was going send him in 3 but was advised otherwise by another parent saying that he needs to go in the 5 mornings,

    Any advice?

I'm presuming you are sending him for his free ECCE year and then he will start Junior Infants next Sept? If so, the full five days is available to you.

You'd have to call the preschool in question and ask them directly because maybe they can't get the ECCE payment from the government if the child is not attending the full 5 days?

I would have thought that if you personally only wanted to send him the three days then you should be allowed to, it's only Primary school onwards that's mandatory. You might find he enjoys it and starts asking to go all 5 days.

Yes thats correct, i have spoken to the manager in preschool and he is getting the free ecce year, so there is no issue there, and she said it was ok for him to go part time.

it was just the other parent saying that I need to send him full time as he will miss out if I dont

You won't be able to make a decision rally until he starts. It may take him a while to settle in in which case three days would be enough. On the other hand, he may love it and want to go five days.

Like most things involving kids if it becomes routine it makes it easier for parents.

Sending your child in for the 5 days will make the transition to school a lot easier. I'd imagine that's the point your friend is trying to make.

Is there a particular reason you only want to send him in 3 days/week? Do you plan on keeping those days consistent or just sending him in and taking him out random days?
