I gather that this is not an option in Ireland? I am alone here separated from all my family and need to draw up some provision for eg end of life matters. Regarding eg medical care and funeral matters. I have no property or assets or money to leave so can i do this in a simple will that my family can hold until it is needed? They will have all the info re ending my tenancy and pensions etc and the care of whatever animals I have etc. Can I say that in a simple will? I do not want the expense of power of attorney. Thank you

Was advised by solicitor when doing will to also do up a letter to whomever is left behind witnessed by at least two family members which he would notarise. This letter should contain your wishes for end of life etc.

Living wills have no legal bearing in Ireland & this document would be the exact same but would be able to absolve your next of kin of any guilt associated with switching off machines etc. when discussing it with other family members. It will NOT compel anyone to comply with your wishes if they do not want to.

Thanks.. diy time here with this though. I have the Will template. My family will go with my wishes thankfully; this is to help them make arrangements.

If you pay a solicitor to draft your Will, you might get it done for €100.

If you don't do that and if matters end up in litigation, costs will be exponentially higher and will be sought to be paid from your estate, before your beneficiaries get anything. (EDIT: I now note no property or assets).

In any event, we are not going down the rabbit hole of DIY Wills.

    Good luck.
