Quality clothes but not too expensive?

    Hello everybody.

I recently got a few polo shirts from SportsDirect. They were cheap, about 7 euro each, so I did not expect too much from them, however, only a month later and after wearing them 2-3 times, marks of wear on cotton are visible.

In the 80's, I was getting only Lacoste polo shirts, some of them are still wearable after 35 years (but I am a little bigger since then :o ). I was paying for them 100 euro, which was too much that time, but considering their value in time, I believe it was like an investment.

Today's Lacoste, are not made of the same quality. I got some 2 years ago, they have not wear signs yet, however they are already starting to.

On the other side, I refuse to pay 100 euros for a polo shirt because it is X brand. I want to buy quality. And this goes for every cloth, not just polo shirts.

Does anybody have to suggest any brand or shop where I can buy quality clothes without paying >50% of its price to a well advertised brand?

    Ebay.

Just go into Tommy Hilfiger or wherever and if there is something you want, chances are you will get it on Ebay for half that price, sometimes less if it's being auctioned as opposed to a fixed price listing.

    Wouldn't buy anything from sportsdirect.
I buy a fair bit from savilerow.com. Polo's are around twenty to twenty five mark, last for a few years at least.

I'd always get my pants, sweaters and jackets in M&S

Great quality but not rip off expensive.
    Next are pretty good too.

Sometimes I just browse around Brown Thomas and check out the mannequins they have on display. If I see a look on one that I like then I go to M&S and buy the equivalent at a fraction of the cost.

I'm a huge fan of Uniqlo, and it really pisses me off that we don't have it in Ireland - although it's pretty cheap to order online.

I got some vest tops over the summer that are amazing quality (I wear these all the time under shirts and lower cut tops). I think they are better quality than some Calvin Klein ones I bought a few years ago in Bloomingdales.

Apparently their white shirts are great for work (this is from a friend of mine who does most of her shopping in BT).

At the moment, I'm living in my Uniqlo jeans - cheap as chips at GBP35.

It's just a pity Sterling is so expensive at the moment.

Sports direct buy up struggling brand names and put their own clothes under them. You aren't buying a cheap Lacoste shirt, you're buying a probably appropriately priced Mike Ashley one.

Yes, but is TH a quality brand, or they are cheap chinese made polos with a logo on it, that people buy them for 80-100 euros just to show off? I haven't had a TH before, so I have no personal experience.

Did not really understand that... You are implying that they are fakes? Cause all of my Lacostes were bought from the local Lacoste shop, not even from a distributor.

Heres a idea for you go to Kildare Outlet Village and you can buy your designer polo shirts for about 30 euro less then what you pay in the shops.

My father lives in Lacoste, Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren and he has had some of them for years and they still all look like new expect the stains on them as he wears them under his chef jackets.

But if your looking for quality on the cheap i would say go to kildare outlet as i buy nearly all my stuff there as its so much cheaper then the regular shops.

With the likes of Polo shirts they all look the same more or less so last season is the same as this season really.

As its more or less end of season it will be worth while for you to make a trip there this weekend and you can get some crazy good bargains.

I am not looking for cheap polos/clothes. I have no problem paying 100 euros for a polo shirt if its quality is excellent.

My problem is that most 100 euro polo shirts, are just a logo on the chest and their quality is like the cheap chinese you find on Ali.
Even the Lacoste/Boss/Ralph Lauren are much worse than they were a few years before. I am still wearing Lacoste I got in 90's, however Lacoste I bought before 4 years, has already signs of wear. I got an XL Boss in Dec 2009 and it looks like it is XS... Two Ralph Lauren I own, are like I left them two months out in the sun, the colors are bleached.

And please do not tell me I do not know how to wash them, because in the same laundry go all the older polos, that still retain their good shape and colors.

Try Pretty Green, they do great polos, I have a few and am very happy with them (though sometimes the sizes can be a bit funny - best try them on first if you can):
