    Hi All,

Apologies if this question has been asked before. I am meeting with an Accountant next week but would appreciate if anyone could answer my question before I meet with her; -

I am a (reluctant) first time landlord. I am also a PAYE full time worker. I was advised to register as self-assessed for the rental tax. My question is, if I register as self-assessed does this affect my entitlements to social welfare in the future (in particular maternity benefit) or am I covered because I am a PAYE worker??

    Thanks in advance :)

There is no impact on your future social welfare entitlements by registering for income tax.

Self assessment is different to self employment. If you are registered as self employed, you can't get maternity as you work for yourself
