How long after trading in do they scrap your car?

I recently got a car for a decent price when I added my old car, a 98 Volkswagen, for scrap. It failed the nct on underbody rust and electric windows failing. Now he never said specifically he would scrap it, more that he was going to take official ownership of the car but now more than two weeks on I notice the car is still being stored there. I doubt he will put money into it as the car isn't worth much. I'm just curious, do garages usually wait a while before scrapping?

Some might wait until they've enough cars to justify a truck coming to collect. There again he may intend to scavenge from it or use it as a derby car.

it could sit in a scrap yard for a year or two with parts being taken off it until there is f all left , then sent to be crushed .

Why do you care. If you have transferred ownership to the garage officially, he can drive it drunk through the front window of the nearest garda station and it is not your problem.

My local mechanic had a car same as mine in his yard for two years. Head gasket gone or something, owner just wanted it gone. By the time it went in the crusher most of it was on my car!

No harm in the OP being curious, if mankind wasn't so curious we probably wouldn't have scrap cars to get curious about :D

No it's just anytime I've seen this question asked is because they are afraid the car is going on the road again and the transfer has not been handled properly.

From my experience OP they either send them to auction or sell them through the trade as a parts car or maybe someone else would do it up. Generally when a dealer offers a good price for a car (especially one to be scrapped) he isn't necessarily standing the car that amount, often they will discount the car being sold but instead of discounting the sale price they add it onto the trade in value to make the deal more attractive. You will find that dealers never overvalue a car and will always have options as to where to shift it onto to get their money back and more
