Ford focus hit while parked in leixlip

Know this is a shot in the dark. My car was parked near St Catherine's Park in Leixlip and some one done a lot of damage to the passenger side doors front and rear.
In fairness, I knocked on the door of the nearest house and they said that the person who done it said they would leave a note with contact details under the wiper. However that was last night at about 8pm and I don't see a note there now. Obviously without that note I'm going nowhere. I know it was a silver car.
Any Ideas? I'm wracking my brain to think how I can somehow contact this person. Even Joe Duffy LOL jumped into my head.

I doubt you'll find the driver. They left the scene of an accident without exchanging details and that's a crime. I doubt they'll be back but I'm a cynic.

Did you report it? Is there CCTV?

    You're fecked unfortunately.

Any point in tweeting anyone, maybe aa roadwatch. Just on the off chance (however remote) that they did genuinely leave their details and want to contact

We're you parked in Glendale? Did the neighbour tell you the make or model of car the person drive?
    Was there a match on?
Consider going back around the same time on other days.

I was parked at the bottom of Glendale meadows, just on the left before you turn right on the walkway to the park.
The garage guy reckoned it was a silver focus judging by one piece that was lodged in the side of my car. The neighbour also thought it was silver.
Good idea about checking back on other days although don't believe there was a match on yesterday.
What puzzles me is that he had the decency to go into the nearest house (not my neighbour) and left a note in my wiper. The person in the house told me the note was still there this morning. Maybe I was so concerned with the damage that I didn't see the note. But why didn't he give his registration or take my registration. That's what I would have done.

Really hope the person does have the decency to contact you. Twice I've had damage done to previous cars of mine where the person who caused it drove off. The last time was last year - I can only guess that they reversed into my front bumper at a speed enough to cause a massive dent, there would've been some impact noise. There would likely have been some damage to their car too. But no - they were well gone by the time I saw the damage.
I don't get why someone would do that either - I bashed into a parked car once and had no hesitation in leaving a note.

Thanks. But it's your last point that is baffling. Why leave a note that can blow off. Did you take the car reg and/or ring the guards or tell a neighbour your reg.
I can't find the note that was supposedly left. I'm hoping if they don't receive a call they will do the decent thing.
Leaving a note doesn't totally cut the mustard for me unless the intended recipient gets to read it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭coffeepls

I left a note, and I also rang my insurance company to report what I'd done (dented one door panel on the other car) because they'd be handling the payout. It was in a train station car park & I made sure the note wasn't going to fall off. I would've chased it up anyway. No guards involved - but I never would've rang them. Car hits stationary vehicle is just a car park collision - it's just an insurance matter. Upshot was that the owner of the car rang me & my insurance company paid for the damage.
When I said 'I don't get why someone would do that either' - I mean that I don't get why someone who caused damage to another car would not pursue wanting to pay for the damage they caused. Not everyone is a decent human being though. Like I said - I have been the recipient of car park damage & ended up having to pay for it.

The likelyhood is that this silver car will be repaired, so maybe call into a few car repair garages in the area and ask them would they give you a call if any silver cars go in to be repaired. You may be able to find them that way?

Did you ring your own insurance company? You should do that at least if you haven't already. If the guy who hit you doesn't come forward & contact you, you will need the damage paid for. It doesn't go against your no claims to report it to your insurance company. It's only when they have to get involved & pay for something that it become an issue. As far as I know they just need to know as soon as possible after the collision. Like within days. Because in this case they may end up paying.

Long story but tracked the guy who crashed into my car on Facebook. Have sent a polite message and awaiting a response.
Want to keep the neighbour out of the equation who furnished me with the details so hopefully this can be resolved without garda intervention

A friend came back to a note a few years ago that read "I'm just writing this because people are watching me".

Written by a prick, but a clever prick...

I have reason to believe this guy is not a prick, clever or otherwise. Just hope he responds and I don't have to call in the troops.

Just thinking if I don't get a response, I know from his Facebook where he works/used to work and who his colleagues. Not a route I want to go down to get a phone number. However, is it better for him that I go that route rather than going the cops route

If you know who it is, id get a pic of his insurance disc. If you don't get a satisfactory reply, my next step would be a message saying:

    (A) You have a witness who can confirm he did the damage.
    (B) You will be opening a claim with his insurance company.
    (C) You will be reporting him for leaving the scene of a crash.

    (C) may be a little OTT, but might soften his cough...

If you know where he works I'd be straight down to have a look at their car and find some physical evidence.

Works/used to work in a pub in the village. Was thinking of doing a skoot around this evening in my wife's car. Should I ring pub saying I'm trying to make contact.
Spoke to Garda last night, he said wait until for response and if nothing they'll give him a call and go the official route.
They're not telling me but I get the feeling that they know my evidence stacks up and they know exactly who it is.
I'd prefer that this can be resolved in a civil way without him getting hung out to dry. But I guess that's his call.

Spotted the guys car in town. Took the reg number. Video taken of damage to his car consistent with damage to mine. Only regret I forgot to include reg number in the actual video.
Still guards now have all the info so should be case closed.
I messaged the guy on Facebook again asking was that his reg and for him to contact me but still no response.
I know some people might only log into Facebook rarely so still a chance he's blissfully unaware of my messages.
Still I'll have to get guards involved after a few days.
I'd prefer not but what can I do?
The only details I don't have is his phone number.

    Bake him away toys. :)

In all seriousness, I had to do something very similar to you years ago and it ended in a positive result for me. It's seriously annoying to think of someone doing damage like that and disappearing.

I was driving through town a few months back and traffic splits into two near a traffic island for cars going right and cars going straight. English reg car in front goes into right lane so I go straight on and just as I'm getting beside him he moves towards my lane. I'm squeezed between him and a parked car while braking. I end up smashing the sh!te out of some poor divils wing mirror and the english merc stops for a second beside me and then takes off down the road to the right. Don't know if he just got a fright that I was there or if he knew what had happened. I drove forward and then reversed back to the car I clipped. The guy was sitting in the car when it happened. I didn't even realise it. He just said it was fine and didn't want my details. I was like "You sure? You're mirrors bust?" and he just said "No it's grand. Go on it's okay". I had a couple scratches on my mirror so I got very lucky! I wonder would it have been so easy if it was someone who drove off? Decent people are sometimes found though :)

Facebook messages to non-friends usually go to the "others" folder and can be easily missed because the receiver didn't get any notification, he might not be intentionally ignoring you.

Yeah but prob not appropriate to send a friend request. What do you think?

Add him as a friend, no harm in it. He probably won't see your message as mentioned above

If you only use facebook on your phone, you'll likely never see that "others" folder. I just logged in out of interest and have a message from 2 years ago I've never seen!

That would be so funny. Don't forget to share lots of posts with cute kittens with him. :pac:

If you have his details, a witness and photo evidence can you not just call your insurance company (or his) and tell them you are reporting an accident and to begin processing the claim for repair.

I suppose but I've basically given them 99% of the details and now I'm letting the Guards piece the rest together. I get the impression from the guards that they know, but the Guard who's assigned to the case is off until Saturday.
Seems a bit haphazard, as the Station is almost spitting distance from this guys accomodation.
By the way, I've sent a 'friend' request on FaceBook. What's the harm?

You need to report this to your own insurance company asap and also you need to report it and start a claim against his insurance asap, Monday will be too late.
